Chicken Barbecue

QUMC's annual Chicken Barbecue is fast approaching.  Mark you calendars for this delicious event on Saturday, September 11th, from 4pm 'til 7pm.  Tickets are $9 for adults and $4 for children.  All proceeds benefit our missions commission.

Back to School Wish List

Once again, we are asking you to help the children of Kensington Area Ministries and Jerusalem House get ready for the new school year.  We're looking for back to school supplies for local children who otherwise couldn't afford them.  Bring the following supplies to the church and place them in the shopping cart in the narthex.  The Mission Commission will distribute the school supplies to the children in need.  We're looking for all types of supplies, including paper, tape, crayons, pens/pencils, highlighters, glue, scissors, rulers, staplers, erasers, poster board, and especially Marble Composition Notebooks (no spiral notebooks, please).

Earthquake Response

The Apostle Paul calls followers of Jesus to "rejoice with those who rejoice and mourn with those who mourn."  The writer of Hebrews reminds us to remember those who suffer "as if you yourselves were suffering."  And in Galatians we are reminded to "Carry each other's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ."  With these Scriptures in mind, we mourn, we remember, and we commit to do all we can to help carry the burden of our brothers and sisters in Haiti and Chile.  Look here for more information about the United Methodist Church's response and for ways to be in prayerful action.  QUMC also sent a mission team to help with the rebuilding efforts in Chile.  For more information about that experience and ways to continue supporting our missionary John Elmore, e-mail Pastor Josh
